Assessments are completed with the intent of answering the following questions:
- Is there a Learning Disability (SLD)?
- Is there an Intellectual Disability (IDD)?
- Is there ADHD?
- Is your child gifted?
- How can your child be supported at school?
- What are resources and recommendations that will help support your child outside of school?
What we do
A child’s cognitive, academic and behavioural strengths and challenges are assessed through direct, one-on-one testing and data from family members. The purpose of the assessment is to understand an individual’s learning and behavioural profile, to inform supports for their day-to-day life. The assessment helps identify the individual’s overall strengths and challenges, and can determine if they meet criteria any specific diagnostic criteria.
Once assessment data has been collected and analyzed, we will provide the child, family, and school team with education on the student’s strengths and challenges. If it is determined they have met diagnostic criteria, families and other supports are given information about what the diagnosis means and why the diagnosis has been identified.
Once the assessment results have been reviewed thoroughly, recommendations will be provided. Resources, interventions, and general strategies are offered to the family and school team, with the intention of supporting the client. These recommendations will be evidence-based and will aim to be practical for both the school and home environments.
