Dr. Shireen is a clinical psychologist licensed in Quebec under the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec and able to provide telepsychology services in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick under the Canada Free Trade Agreement. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from McGill University and also completed Master’s degrees in Counselling and Clinical Psychology at Adler Graduate School and in Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto. Her extensive graduate training includes a Clinical Psychology Internship at the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Clinic of the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, where she worked alongside a dynamic interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. Her diverse practicum experiences include the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Mindspace Clinic in Montréal, the McGill University Clinical Psychology Center, and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (University of Toronto).
Dr. Shireen’s assessment practice focuses on diagnosing complex psychological conditions through a comprehensive clinical interview process and with the support of evidence-based psychological questionnaires. She is currently a member of the Canadian Association of Psychologists in Disability Assessments and will be pursuing the Certificate in Medical Legal Exams (CMLE) in the upcoming year. Her assessment practice is focused on enabling clients to develop a thorough understanding of their symptoms, developmental patterns, strengths, and challenges to provide strong treatment recommendations rooted in an integrative model of psychological care.
Dr. Shireen psychotherapy practice is focused on treating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship and attachment difficulties, self-esteem concerns, and existential issues. Additionally, she has a special interest and training in the treatment and assessment of personality disorders. She integrates a range of therapeutic modalities— mindfulness-based therapy, emotion-focused therapy, interpersonal therapy, internal family systems therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy—to guide clients. Her goal is to foster self-awareness and uncover clients’ innate potential for healing and problem-solving. Dr. Shireen approach provides a warm, non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their joys and challenges, learn from their difficult experiences, and make informed decisions. Her overarching goal as a clinician is to help clients develop trust in their own inner wisdom and become more self-sufficient.
In addition to her work as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Shireen is also a mindfulness meditation teacher. Her journey in mindfulness training began nearly a decade ago after participating in a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group. Since then, she has maintained a dedicated daily practice and completed advanced coursework in Mindsight training with Dr. Stephane Treyvaud, drawing on the teachings of Karlfried Graf Dürckheim, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Daniel Siegel, and Vipassana and Yoga traditions. In her teaching, she integrates Eastern Zen principles with Western psychological theories to help clients explore the inner landscapes of their minds. She recognizes both the benefits and the potential risks of mindfulness meditation, especially for those with complex clinical conditions, and uses this to tailor her teaching to each individual.
To continue to best serve her clients, Dr. Shireen diligently engages in continuing education opportunities to hone her clinical skills, takes advantage of consultation opportunities with peers, maintains her own daily mindfulness meditation practice (of nearly 15 years), and regularly engages in her own psychological work.
